It feels almost like a month ago, in the blur of the 5 years that was 2020, that I planned a 21-day, turned 22-day, vacation to Italy to visit my partner who, at the time, I hadn't seen in a mere 5 months --- if we only knew what was about to come.
Originally, I began writing this post when it would have actually been 365 since I had seen my love, January 15th 2021
--- but here we are in the middle of May, still apart and only just beginning to see the glimmer of ---not our preferred glimmer of--- hope.
Who knew that the extra day we got together due to an Italian Airline Strike would be the last day we would spend together physically for more than a year. He always makes a ---not so funny--- joke that we ended up in the two of the most difficult countries during the pandemic. Italy, being the highlight of the pandemic at the time and Trinidad and Tobago, where we remain in solitary confinement, technically, ha ha -_- .
Our preferred version of events would be the scenario where he fly's to Trinidad, we organize some legalities and we return to Italy. Beyond the factor of cost, which we are somewhat willing to look past, Trinidad's boarder remains closed, with no indication of the situation changing anytime soon. While receiving exemptions to leave is not necessarily a challenge, the true challenge is receiving an exemption to enter the boarders.
Italy, however, has just confirmed its trial of COVID-Tested flights, finally opening their boarders to tourists after a year. These flights are only available through designated airports being, Rome (FCO) and Milan (MXP) from Atlanta (ATL) and New York (JFK). ---The glimmer of hope, as there are available flights from Trinidad (POS) to New York (JFK) once an exemption is received.
So, say a prayer with and for us that I am not writing with the same sentiments on January 15th 2022.
