Best Travel Planning Apps for Beginners in 2024

Updated: Apr 11

Title Image - My Go To Travel Planning Apps

While I have at least 3 folders on my phone dedicated to specific groupings of travel related apps. This list will be focused on travel planning in particular.

These are the apps I use when trying to plan a vacation, staycation or just browsing to see what is possible.

While there are many apps that I sometimes use, these are the ones that I deem to be my top five best travel planning apps.

Hopper App interface

Hopper

I love hopper. If there was a print-out of the amount of times I have used the app, it might be a scroll. Besides its eye pleasing graphical user interface and its ease of use, I love hopper as it shows me the highest and lowest prices for my chosen destinations and provides suggestions of the best time to purchase tickets. While they solely focused on flights previously, they have now expanded to include cars, hotels and homes. Again, I can't describe how much I love this app.

Skyscanner app interface

I honestly forgot how nifty an app skyscanner was and was recently reminded why I love it. If you are not committed to a destination but just want a cheap vacation, skyscanner is the app that allows you see what and where is possible. The feature I love about skyscanner is the "everywhere" option. Just input your departure airport, your timeframe (if applicable, you don't have to), and boom.... vacation options from lowest to highest, my favorite sorting order.

AirBnB App Interface
AirBnb

Depending on the vybe of the vacation you don't always want a hotel and a villa or private space is much more preferred. While there are other apps I use such as Flipkey and Home Away as well as MyTobago (for Tobago staycations), AirBnb has become so popular, its many times my go to, to see what the prices are like or to look for a cute space.

Booking.com App interface

When looking for a hotel, I tend to use booking.com as they usually have deals. Booking.com also has other search features as any other planning app but my main uses are for hotels and car rentals.

Google Maps App Interface

Google Maps

Now, you may be asking "but why is Google Maps on a travel planning list?" When planning a vacation, I like to see the location of any potential hotels/villas in relation to the airport or arrival station. Also, where the 3D view is available, I want to see what the streets are looking like lol, that saved us from some sus looking locations at times, even though the place was spectacular. No but really, it helps to know if a car rental is needed or if public transport would suffice.

There you have it, my top 5 travel planning apps. Are any of these in your top 3? What are your go to travel planning apps? Let me know in the comments below.
